Waterperry Opera Festival is seeking to recruit new trustees, the Oxfordshire-based festival has revealed. This annual festival was founded in 2017 to create innovative productions and engaging participatory events. It takes place at Waterperry House and Gardens. This year’s festival will run from 11-20 August.

The organisation has said that in order to support the delivery and future growth of the festival, it requires more trustees who can strengthen and extend the existing skill set of its board. Trustees play a vital role in providing strategic direction for the festival, having a real impact on the festival’s success.

Candidates will be expected to bring expertise in one or more of three important areas. First, a track record in strategic fundraising, ideally in the arts sector, with the ability to build networks and to advise the board on developing effective fundraising campaigns.

Second, senior leadership experience of managing events involving music, especially for an opera company or arts festival, and who can advise on creating programmes, organising venues, creating artistic partnerships. And finally, experience of devising and delivering marketing strategy and creation and delivery of effective social media platforms and who can advise the board on these.

Successful applicants will be expected to play an active role in providing oversight, challenge, support and leadership. They will be engaged, and ensure good governance and help to deliver Waterperry Opera Festival’s objectives.

Trustees will attend six board meetings per year in person (or virtually from time to time). There will also be additional meetings as necessary depending on management’s needs and trustees’ time availability. Applicants should have a passion for opera and for nurturing a young organisation. Although not essential, a connection to the local area in Oxfordshire is welcome.

Waterperry Opera Festival commented that it “welcomes applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process.”

The trustee roles are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The appointment is for a three-year term initially, which can be renewed at the discretion of the board.

Further information on the roles is available from the organisation’s website. To apply, email your CV and a short cover letter by 5pm on 10 March 2023 to Waterperry Opera Festival
